May 2025 Update

It's been a while since I wrote about Candice-Marie. I have been doing a lot of tinkering with her, here's some of the latest. I've been doing some modifications



It's well known amongst people who like that sort of thing that it's relatively easy to lower the front suspension on a Morris Minor, and someone helpfully posted scans of a how-to from a 1990's edition of Street Machine magazine on the Rods n' Sods forum. So armed with a print out of that, and various spanners, sockets, and a big hammer I set about adjusting Candice's altitude. It wasn't quite as easy as the magazine article made it look, because I had a couple of mishaps along the way, but she's sitting lower now and looking good!




I've also been working on a suitably retro in-car entertainment system. I haven't quite finished all the wiring, but it's pretty much there.



The radio is from the late 60s/early 70s, and I got it cheap from a charity shop because it didn't work. I took out its non-functioning internals and it now houses a couple of old PC speakers, and I've wired an aux-in where there originally would have been a socket to plug in an external aerial - for using it in a car, for example. Those old computer speakers are capable of putting out decent quality sound at quite some volume, more than suitable for this usage!



This little box contains a usb-c/3.5mm audio splitter device which is plugged into the back of the usb-c socket you can see, so that I can use the one socket to charge my phone and play tunes from it. The switch will turn charging on and off, but is mostly there for visual balance if I'm being completely honest. The box was originally a jukebox shaped metal money box, and I've used plywood and vinyl to give it a similar aesthetic to the old radio. My whole thing with the car is to give it a few mod-cons but all kept looking era-appropriate. I say a few mod-cons, basically phone charging and cup holders.
